EAU DE PARFUM OR EAU DE TOILETTE ?

What is the difference between eau de parfum and eau de toilette?

A perfume is made of a mixture of perfumed concentrate, containing the fragrant essences, and alcohol. The percentage of dilution of the perfumed concentrate in the alcohol is the concentration.

The difference between Perfume, Eau de Parfum and Eau de toilette lies in this concentration of the formulas.

The Eau de parfum is generally more concentrated than an Eau de Toilette. It thus contains in proportion more perfumed concentrate than an Eau de Toilette. This higher concentration implies a higher intensity, a diffusion then powerful, as well as a more durable trail.

Today the tendency is with an increase in the concentration, that it is for the eaux de toilette or the eaux de parfum.

What are the different types of perfumes?

Perfume or perfume extract

Among the different types of perfumes, we find perfume extracts and perfumes, which present an even higher concentration than an eau de parfum. Precious and powerful, often presented in a small bottle with a glass cabochon, they remain an exceptional perfuming gesture more confidential, or reserved for great occasions.

Fresh water or cologne

Waters, fresh waters and colognes are generally less concentrated, with a lower intensity. These waters bring freshness and offer an invigorating and invigorating sensation, particularly appreciated during the summer. Presented in larger formats, their application is generous, we spray with pleasure!

Eau de Cologne originates from a perfume created by Jean Marie Farina in 1709. The term, since generic, designates a type of perfume often composed of a base of citrus fruits and aromatics. These fragrances are light, refreshing, energizing and resolutely timeless. We invite you to discover our essential perfumes whose freshness and composition are typical of an Eau de Cologne: Eau d'Hadrien, Eau du Sud or Eau de Monsieur.

Today, other names are appearing such as Eau de Parfum Extrême, Eau de Cologne concentrée, etc. which indicate a higher concentration of the fragrance, and often, a variation of notes compared to the original version.

How to choose between an eau de parfum and an eau de toilette?

The choice between an eau de parfum and an eau de toilette, depends on your personality and your desire of the moment.

If you prefer the fresh, subtle, soft, not heady scents, we advise you to direct you towards the eau de toilette. If on the contrary, you like more intense fragrances, which do not pass unnoticed and leave a frank trail, the water of perfume will be ideal. It lasts longer on the skin and leaves a stronger trail.

Eau de parfum or eau de toilette: how is a perfume classified?

There is no specific rule in the world of perfumery. The perfume house and the nose agree to create a coherence among the creations.

The classification is based on several criteria: the intensity of the fragrance, the power of the diffusion, the tenacity or the persistence of the perfume. It facilitates the decision making for the consumer.

Eaux de Parfum and Eaux de Toilette Goutal are named according to their olfactory intensity in addition to the concentration of fragrant essences, to better guide the consumer.

For a lighter fragrance, the eau de toilette is ideal. For a more intense and persistent perfume, the choice will be for the eau de parfum.

Are the ingredients of the eau de parfum and the eau de toilette of the same fragrance identical?

As for the classification, there is no definite rule. Most of the time, the ingredients of the eau de parfum and the eau de toilette are identical. At Goutal, the concentration is generally the only differentiating criterion, as is the case for Eau d'Hadrien and Petite Chérie. However, depending on the House's or the nose's wishes, some formulas can be slightly modified.

It is possible to add to the eau de parfum notes that give relief, lengthen the trail. The eau de toilette can have green, fruit or citrus notes added at the top, which will bring freshness and cheerfulness. This is the case for Un Matin d'Orage, greener in eau de toilette, more intense with facets of tuberose for the eau de parfum.

Can other factors influence the intensity and tenacity of a fragrance?

Indeed, many factors influence the intensity and tenacity of a fragrance. The perfuming gesture is one of them. For a subtle and light trail, a more diffused application at about 15 centimeters from the skin will be perfect.

If instead, you want a more intense and long-lasting scent, spray your perfume a few centimeters away from your skin, as well as on your clothes. You can also spray your hairbrush, to perfume your hair without damaging it. For more depth, do not hesitate to accompany your perfume with a perfumed shower gel or body lotion of the same scent or to associate it with the Universal Cream.
